Sections

The Tools tab contains the following expandable/collapsible sections:

  • Stock - the stock material of the part

  • Tools - the source of the tool library that is to be used by CAM Assist to compute a toolpath strategy.

For details of the options for each section, and how to use them, see Features, below.

Tooltips

Tooltips contain useful information on the purpose and use of features within the Tools tab. To see a tooltip, just hover over a feature.

How to Use

Stock

Material

CAM Assist selects tools, machining strategies, and cutting parameters suitable for this material.

Select a material from the drop-down.

Tools

Tools source

CAM Assist produces operations using the tools that are included in the selected ‘Tool source’.

CAM Assist provides three choices:

  • Tools from session - the tools that are available in the current Siemens NX session.

  • Built-in Metric toolset - built-in CloudNC CAM Assist tools with metric units.

  • Built-in Imperial toolset - built-in CloudNC CAM Assist tools with imperial units.

The Tool Usages tab provides at-a-glance information on how each tool in the selected ‘Tool Source’ will be used by CAM Assist (see Tool Usages Tab).

Select a Tool Source from the drop-down.

Export Tools to Session

You can only select one tool library at a time to run CAM Assist.

Enables a hybrid selection of tools (that is, the tools associated with the part file plus tools added to the session manually).

After clicking ‘Export Tools to Session’, the tools should be visible in the ‘Machine Tool View’ of the ‘Operation Navigator’.

For a hybrid selection of tools:

  1. Manually add the tools to the NX session

  2. Click Export Tools to Session.
