Tutorial - Demo Part 5

Demo 5 - Aircraft Bracket

This demo part showcases

  • 3+2 operations

  • Soft Jaw creation

  • Multi-Setup operation

This part is a two operation part that makes use of the Soft Jaw Designer for the second operation.

 

Follow the steps below to work with Demo 5 - Aircraft bracket:

  1. In the Manufacture space of Autodesk Fusion, open the CAM Assist drop-down menu and select Open a Demo Part > Demo 5 - Aircraft Bracket.

 

The file will open in the current document units.

The file is preconfigured with two (2) Setups. For Setup2, soft jaws need to be created.

  1. Open the CAM Assist drop-down menu, and select Fixture Management > Soft Jaw Designer.

It may be necessary to authenticate at this moment.

  1. In the Soft Jaw Designer add-in, click the Select button.

  2. Select the part in the main view.

 

  1. Pick the Select button in the Jaws row.

  2. Select the jaw geometry in the main view.

The jaw geometry may not be visible. Ensure the Op2 Workholding components are visible in the Fusion browser.

  1. Pick the Select button in the Spindle direction row of the Soft Jaw Designer.

  2. Select one of the top surfaces on the part.

  1. Pick the Select button in the Opening direction row.

  2. Pick one of the long side faces on the part.

  3. Click OK at the bottom of the Soft Jaw Designer panel.

After a brief calculation, the soft jaws will be ready. To view the jaws, hide the part in the browser.

Now the part can be CAM programmed using CAM Assist.

  1. Open CAM Assist from the Manufacture space.

  1. In the General tab of the CAM Assist add-in, choose the tool library(ies) to use.

  1. Select the Stock material.

  1. Choose the appropriate machine properties.

  1. Choose the Machining mode. For this example, choose 3+2 and Automatic.

  1. Ensure both Setups are checked on in the Target setups section.

  1. In Setup2, select the button in the Avoidance geometry row.

  2. Select the soft jaw bodies from the previous step.

  1. Confirm the selections in the Tool Use tab.

  1. In the Advanced tab, check on all the necessary Toolpath Types.

  1. Check any of the other settings, and make adjustments if necessary.

  1. Hit the Run button at the bottom of the panel.
