New Tool Use Tab

The ‘Tool Use’ tab provides CAM Assist’s Tool Onboarding Manager, which provides at-a-glance information for sets of tools and more detailed information for each individual tool.
This information will help you to decide which tools you want to allow to be used from the selected ‘Tool library’ (toolset) for the selected ‘Stock material’ and specific ‘usages’ (operations).

Intelligent analysis and reporting

When you select a Fusion toolset, CAM Assist intelligently analyzes each tool in that toolset and provides a summary of the following:

  • Suitability - CAM Assist determines the suitability of each tool to machine the selected part.

  • How cutting data presets are determined - CAM Assist looks at each tool’s cutting data presets, as configured within Fusion. If they are not suitable (or missing), then ‘Tool use’ reports the issue and provides an ‘intelligent’ CAM Assist alternative.

Helping you to get the most from your toolset

To help you get the most from the selected toolset:

  1. CAM Assist examines the Fusion configuration for each tool that you’ve ‘allowed’ CAM Assist to use and identifies the relevant cutting data preset ('preset') for that tool.

  2. CAM Assist then examines the parameters of that cutting data preset and takes action, based on the following table.

Fusion preset parameters

CAM Assist’s actions

All are configured (including tool holder, stepdown, and stepover values).

All of the configured parameters are used by CAM Assist for the ‘allowed’ materials and operations.

Some are configured and some are missing.

All of those cutting data preset parameters that have been configured are used by CAM Assist.

For those required parameters that have not been configured within Fusion, CAM Assist generates them 'intelligently’.

None of the preset parameters are defined.

CAM Assist generates the required parameters 'intelligently’.

Tab layout

The ‘Tool use’ tab is split into two sections:

  • General - a collapsible/expandable section that contains drop-down boxes to enable the user to specify the machining environment (see Tool Use - General Section).

  • Toolset table - uses provides at-a-glance information for each tool in the selected ‘Tool library’ (toolset):

    • 4-state buttons - contained within the ‘Allowed Materials’ and ‘Allowed Operations’ columns, each 4-state button quickly shows the following:

      • If CAM Assist has identified cutting data presets (configured within Fusion) for the tool.

      • Whether or not you have decided to ‘allow’ CAM Assist to use that tool for the ‘material and specific 'usages’.

    • Status alert buttons - contained within the ‘Status’ column, the status alert buttons quickly shows that there is a Fusion configuration issue for the related tool.

    • Tooltips - Tooltips provide context-specific details and appear for:

      • Cutting data presets - 4-state button tooltips that provides the following information:

        • The name of Fusion cutting data presets identified by CAM Assist, or

        • The action taken by CAM Assist for cutting data parameters that weren’t identified.

      • Status - provide information regarding Fusion configuration issues.

    • For more information, see Tool Use - Toolset Table.
