Fine Tune

‘Fine tune’ is an expandable/collapsible section, featured at the bottom of the Display Area; it is available when the 2D Milling diagram or a Heatmap is displayed.

When the Fine tune section is expanded, it is populated with a set of cutting parameters that you can use to fine tune the tool’s application of the selected operation.
Each parameter can be adjusted via a fine tune slider (see below).

As the values in a slider are adjusted, the following are adjusted automatically:

This provides a dynamic view of all cutting parameters and the affect they have on the milling process.

Fine tune sliders

All of the Fine tune parameters are defined within the Glossary of Terms.

Each parameter is fine-tuned via a slider that could have any of the features shown in the following diagram:

The units displayed for the sliders could be imperial or metric, depending on the ‘session settings’ (see Features and Functionality).

The following table details each of the slider’s features.

How to change the value

1

Lower constraint adjuster

The lowermost permitted value for the parameter.

Click and drag the value to the left or right.

2

Current (recommended) value

The current, recommended, value based on the the constraints of the parameter, the setting of the quality control sliders and the value of related parameters.

Take the following steps:

  1. Double-click the value.

  2. Enter a new value (within the constraint range of the parameter).

  3. Press ‘Enter’ or click outside of the current value box.

3

Upper constraint adjuster

The uppermost value for the parameter.

Click and drag the value to the left or right.

As the upper constraint is adjusted, the current recommended value changes dynamically.

4

Reset constraints

Resets the upper and lower constrains to their default values.

Click to reset.

5

Lock value

Locks/Unlocks the parameter's values.

Click to switch between lock: image-20240409-113409.png and unlock: image-20240409-113433.png.

Validation checks

Each slider has built-in validation checks, as detailed below.

Constraints

If one of the constraints is moved so that the lower constraint is higher than the upper constraint then the constraints are automatically adjusted so that the lower constraint is always lower than the upper constraint.

Manually amended ‘Current value’

If the current value is amended outside of the constraint range, an error message is displayed.

In such cases, all related parameters are all put in an error state (indicated with a red border).

The screenshot to the right shows what happens when ‘Depth of cut’ is accidentally given a value of 100 inches.

To remove this type of invalid value, do one of the following:

  • Click the ‘Reset constraints’ icon: image-20240409-113056.png.

  • Enter a valid value, within the constraint range for the parameter.

Tooltips

Hovering over any measurement displays a tooltip that contains the alternative unit system.

To change the unit system, use the Session Settings (see Features and Functionality).

The screenshot to the right shows the measurement, in Imperial, next to its tooltip, in Metric.
