Top banner

Contains the add-on title ‘CloudNC Soft Jaw Designer’.

Part

Used to indicate the part within the NX model.

Jaws

Used to indicate the bodies, within the NX model, from which the jaws will be designed.

Select existing bodies from which the jaws will be designed (if they have already been modelled) or leave the selection empty to auto-generate cuboid-shaped stock.

Jaw Orientation

An expandable/collapsible section.

Spindle Direction

Used to indicate the direction from which the spindle/tool is expected to approach the part.

Opening Direction

Used to indicate the direction that the jaw opens and closes to secure the part.

Jaw Geometry

An expandable/collapsible section.

The values in this section are automatically populated based on the selections made.

Length

The size of the jaw stock along the X-axis.

Width

The size of the jaw stock along the Y-axis.

Height

The size of the jaw stock along the Z-axis.

Gap

The distance between the two jaw stocks.

Jaw Position

An expandable/collapsible section.

The values in this section are automatically populated based on the selections made.

X

In the XY plane along the X-axis, the displacement of the center of the jaw stock from the center of the selected body.

Y

In the XY plane along the Y-axis, the displacement of the center of the jaw stock from the center of the selected body.

Z

Amount of offset of the jaws with respect the part.

Cut-out geometry

An expandable/collapsible section.

Corner Refer Drill Size

The drill size used for corner relief, which is used to create clearance allowances for sharp corners.

All-around Clearance

The distance between the internal edge of the jaws and the part.

Interlock Prevention

  • Checked - prevents interlock between the part and the soft jaws.

    • Enables the part to be inserted into the soft jaws from the top and the Opening Direction.

  • Unchecked - does not prevent interlock between the part and the soft jaws.

    • If the part has a complex outline then the resulting design of the soft jaws may mean the part can only be inserted from above.

Multilevel

  • Checked - designs a multilevel soft jaws design.

  • Unchecked - designs a single level soft jaws design.

Z levels

This parameter is only displayed if Multilevel is checked.

Used to indicate the Z-levels for a multilevel soft jaws design.

If Z-levels are not indicated then the Soft Jaw Designer will attempt to automatically select them. However, this could lead to a overly-complex shape.

Bottom banner

Contains the following:

OK - uses the above parameters to design soft jaws to secure the part.
The designed soft jaws are then available in the Fusion Browser and when using CloudNC CAM Assist.

Cancel - cancels the current design session and closes the Soft Jaw Designer (a design is not created).
