‘Fine tune’ is an expandable/collapsible section, featured at the bottom of the display area; it is available when the Milling diagram or the Heatmap is displayed.

When the Fine tune section is expanded, it is populated with a set of cutting parameters: each parameter can be adjusted via a fine-tune slider (see below).

As the values in a slider are adjusted, the following are adjusted automatically:

This provides a dynamic view of all cutting parameters and the affect they have on the milling process.

Fine tune sliders

All of the Fine tune parameters are defined within the Glossary of Terms.

Each parameter is fine-tuned via a slider that could have any of the features shown in the following diagram:

The units displayed for the sliders could be imperial or metric, depending on the ‘session settings’ (see Cutting Parameters Layout (#9)).

The following table details each of the slider’s features.

Name

Description

How to change the value

1

Lower constraint adjuster

The lowermost permitted value for the parameter.

Click and drag the value to the left or right.

As the lower constraint is adjusted, the recommended value changes dynamically.

2

Current value

The current/recommended value.

Changing any of the following may dynamically affect the current value.

  • The value chosen for the quality control sliders (see Milling Diagram).

  • The upper and lower constraints for this parameter.

  • The value of other parameters that affect this one.

In addition, the value can be changed directly be double-clicking the value and manually entering a new one.

3

Upper constraint adjuster

The uppermost value for the parameter.

Click and drag the value to the left or right.

As the upper constraint is adjusted, the recommended value changes dynamically.

4

Reset constraints

Resets the upper and lower constrains to their default values.

Click to reset.

5

Lock value

Locks/Unlocks the parameter's values.

Click to switch between lock and unlock.

Validation checks

Each slider has a set of built-in validation checks, as detailed below.

Constraints

If one of the constraints is moved so that the lower constraint is higher than the upper constraint then the constraints are automatically adjusted so that the lower constraint is always lower than the upper constraint.

Manually amended ‘Current value’

If the current value is amended outside of the constraint range, an error message is displayed.

In such cases, all related parameters are all put in an error state.

The screenshot to the right shows what happens when ‘Depth of cut’ is accidentally given a value of 1005in, instead of 1.005in.

Note the description of the error, the red unit for ‘Depth of cut’ and the “Error” in the related parameters.

To remove this type of invalid value, do one of the following:

  • Click the ‘Reset constraints’ icon (see above)

  • Enter a valid value for the parameter
