This page contains the step 2 of the ‘Getting Started with CAM Assist' tutorial: how to open a part for use with CAM Assist.

You must have installed CAM Assist before starting this step (see Step 1 - Installing CAM Assist).

You have two choices for the source of your part:

As long as your part has at least one setup defined, you can use it with CAM Assist.

Before you can use CAM Assist, the part that you plan to use must consist of at least one workpiece with the model and blank in Siemens NX:

  • CAM Assist can support up to 10 workpiece setups in your model/part

    • CAM Assist will program them all simultaneously.

  • CAM Assist supports blanks (see Naming Blanks) defined in NX as geometry, bounding cylinder, bounding body, and with associated IPW.

The Sign-up process

When you open CAM Assist for the first time (for your first install and subsequent new versions), it will automatically open a webpage asking you to sign in:

  • If you don’t have an account, scroll down and sign up for CAM Assist.

  • Create a new password following the password guidelines, then press ‘Next’.

  • You will receive an email with a one-time verification code. Check your email and enter the verification code in the dialog box.

  • Assuming you have an active subscription to CAM Assist, you will see a confirmation page indicating a successful login.

Opening a ‘Demo’ part

To open one of CloudNC’s ‘Demo’ parts, take the following steps:

  1. From the opening ‘CAM Assist menu’ (see Step 1, above):

    • Click Open a Demo Part

    • Siemens NX opens a new tab headed ‘Open Demo Part’ (see the image to the right).

  2. Select one of the Demo parts.

  3. Click OK.

    • Siemens NX opens the part in its own tab (for example, 'Demo Part 1.prt').

    • The content of the CAM Assist menu changes to the full CAM Assist Ribbon (see below).
