Tool Management for CAM Assist for NX2412
NX 2412 Connected Tool Manager
In NX 2412, Siemens introduces a powerful enhancement to tool handling with the Connected Tool Manager, fully integrated into the NX CAM environment. This feature simplifies and modernizes how users manage cutting tools and holders, helping streamline the setup process and reduce programming time.
With the Connected Tool Manager, users can manage tools, access up-to-date machining data, and integrate seamlessly with external tooling systems all without leaving the NX CAM interface.
Using custom tools with CAM Assist
To use CAM Assist with your own tools:
Simply add your desired tools from Connected Tool Manager to the current session.
You can:
Add specific tools that you want CAM Assist to use.
Add a broader tool set (e.g., several end mills, drills, and spot drills), and let CAM Assist intelligently select the most appropriate tools while creating the machining strategy.
Tools vs. Tool Assemblies
Tools Without Holders: CAM Assist uses the cutting data saved directly on the tool.
Tool Assemblies (Tool + Holder): CAM Assist uses the cutting data saved on the entire tool assembly.
Defining preset cutting data in the Connected Tool Manager
Steps to Define Preset Cutting Data
Open Connected Tool Manager
Go to the Tooling tab in NX.
Click Connected Tool Manager.
Create or Edit a Tool or Tool Assembly
Go to the Machining Data Section
Define the following parameters:
Preset Name
Part Material
Cut Method (e.g., roughing, finishing, drilling)
Cutting Speed (Vc)
Feed per Tooth (fz)
Spindle Speed (RPM)
Axial and Radial Depths
Save your tool or assembly
Ensure the Preset Name, Material, and Cut Method align with CAM Assist’s supported terms.
How CAM Assist Applies Preset Data
CAM Assist uses the following information to match tools to operations and apply machining data:
Preset Name
Part Material
Cut Method
Tool LibRef (Name)
The preset must contain a CAM Assist-supported material and cut method to be applied correctly. On installation, CAM Assist automatically adds a list of pre-approved materials and cut methods to your NX environment.
CAM Assist uses both Tools and Tool Assemblies
When using tools without holders, CAM Assist will identify the feeds and speeds that have been saved against the Tool.
When using tool assemblies, CAM Assist will identify the feeds and speeds that have been saved against the tool assembly.
On installation, CAM Assist will add a list of predetermined, CAM Assist approved cut methods and part materials to your custom environment.
