Using the 'Roughing' section
The ‘Roughing' section provides a granular level of control for the ‘stock to leave’ aspect of the roughing toolpath.
For an overview of this section's features and functionality, see Roughing.
This page uses examples and instructions to help you use the features of the ‘Roughing’ section:
Hole patching
To prevent Roughing passes from attempting to cut into holes, CAM Assist uses ‘Bodies’ (visible in the Fusion Browser, under ‘Models’) to virtually ‘fill in’ those holes. This can be important for efficiency and ensuring surface finish and part tolerances.
For ‘Hole patching’, you have the following options:
Checked - CAM Assist uses ‘Bodies’ to fill in holes to prevent roughing passes from attempting to cut into them.
Unchecked - CAM Assist will not prevent roughing passes from cutting into the holes.
Hole patching - checked
When ‘Hole patching’ is checked (compare with ‘unchecked’, below), the cutting path for Roughing does not cut into any of the holes.
To prevent the Roughing operation from attempting to rough holes, CAM Assist intelligently fills in holes with ‘Bodies’ before the toolpath for the Roughing operation is computed.
The ‘bodies’ can be examined in the ‘Models’ folder => ‘CAM Assist:1’ => 'Bodies’ of the Fusion Browser (see the screenshot to the right).
Hole patching - unchecked
When ‘Hole patching’ is unchecked, CAM Assist will not prevent roughing passes from cutting into the holes, as shown in the following screenshot.
Â
As can be seen from the above screenshot, when ‘Hole patching’ is unchecked (compare with ‘checked’, above), the cutting path for Roughing might cut into the holes of the part (note the roughing toolpath inside each of the corner holes).
Radial stock to leave
An intentional margin of material that remains on the radial surfaces of the part after an operation. The excess material is intentionally left to ensure that the final dimensions and tolerances are met during subsequent machining operations or as part of the finishing process.
There are two ways to adjust the Radial stock to leave:
Up-Down arrows () - found at the righthand edge of the box that contains the value:
Up - click to increase the value.
Down - click to decrease the value.
Enter a new value directly:
Click the value box at the position you want to enter the new value.
Enter the new value.
Axial stock to leave
The material that remains along the tool axis after machining a part.
There are two ways to adjust the Axial stock to leave:
Up-Down arrows () - found at the righthand edge of the box that contains the value:
Up - click to increase the value.
Down - click to decrease the value.
Enter a new value directly:
Click the value box at the position you want to enter the new value.
Enter the new value.
