How Much Fusion Configuration is Required?

This is the first page of the Working with Fusion’s Tool Library section.

Here, you’ll learn the difference between ‘fully' and ‘partially’ configuring you Fusion Tool Library and what that means with respect to:

  • Your level of control of cutting data parameters

  • CAM Assist’s actions based on the level of configuration

To compute a toolpath strategy, CAM Assist does not require cutting data parameters to be fully configured in Fusion.

Levels of Fusion Tool Library configuration

The following table shows the difference between fully and partially configuring your tool library within Fusion and how that changes the cutting data CAM Assist’s uses to compute toolpath strategies.

Full configuration

All of the tools have all the required cutting data configured within Fusion’s Tool Library.

Full control of cutting data parameters.

  • CAM Assist checks the suitability of the Fusion cutting data and reports any configuration issues. (see ‘Tool Use’ tab).

  • CAM Assist uses all cutting data values that are configured within Fusion and match the Preset Name Format.

    • Where CAM Assist cannot identify matching cutting data presets, the cutting data is generated by CAM Assist.

Partial configuration

Some of the tools are configured with cutting data (user-defined or Fusion-default) within Fusion’s Tool Library.

Partial control of cutting data parameters.

You have control only of those cutting data parameters that you've configured within the Fusion Tool Library.

You decide how much cutting data you want to configure within your Fusion tool library: the more you configure, the more control you have over the feeds and speeds.
Whatever level of configuration you use, CAM Assist will check its suitability and will intelligently generate cutting data for everything that has not been configured in Fusion.

Keep in Mind

CAM Assist works best on medium to large tool libraries.
While you can use CAM Assist with a small number of tools, CAM Assist will try to make the best of the limited available options, which could result in something unexpected during the computation of a toolpath strategy.
