Face Mills [Optional]

If you are pressed for time, you can skip Face mills.

CAM Assist will work well without any Face mills in your tool library, you simply won’t get facing toolpaths generated at the beginning of your program.

The CAM Assist Face Milling strategy produces separate roughing and finishing passes with your face mill, depending on how much stock needs to be removed. Therefore, you will need two cutting data presets on your face mill tool.

Fusion - Face mill presets

Stepdown and Stepover

If stepdown and stepover values are not specified (and you have used the Tool Use tab to ‘allow’ the tool to be used) then CAM Assist will ensure that suitable cutting data parameters are provided for the machining operation.

If you would prefer to specify the stepdown and stepover values, in Fusion, yourself then you will need two cutting data presets:

  • Aluminum - Roughing - used for the initial facing passes.

  • Aluminum - Finishing - used for the final pass to bring the stock down to finished size.

Then specify stepdown and stepover values for each of the above presets in Fusion.

Typically, you would want a smaller stepdown for the Finishing preset, and a larger stepdown for the Roughing preset.
