Smart Keywords

Normally, Fusion cutting data presets are associated with a single material and a single operation (according to the Preset name format).

However, it is possible to use one cutting data preset for more than one operation on a single material.

Smart Keywords are ‘smart’ because they provide a smart way to assign one Fusion cutting data preset to multiple operations within CAM Assist.

Smart keywords can be used for the operation aspect of the Preset name format.

Smart Keyword

Operations assigned by CAM Assist

Smart Keyword

Operations assigned by CAM Assist

Drilling

Twist Drilling and Spot Drilling (depending on the type of tool).

Finishing

Wall Finishing, Ball Finishing, Face Finishing, Helical Boring, and Flat Finishing (depending on the type of tool).

Roughing

Roughing or Face Roughing (depending on the type of tool).

Side milling

Roughing, Wall Finishing, Flat Finishing, and Helical Boring.

If you decide to use smart keywords in your Fusion cutting data presets, keep in mind that you are designating the speeds and feeds associated with that preset to all of the operations that are assigned to that smart keyword.

Example use in Fusion and CAM Assist

The following example shows use of the smart Keyword ‘Side milling’.

Within Fusion’s Tool Library

A Bull nose end mill (22101) has a single cutting data preset ‘Aluminum - Side milling’.

Within CAM Assist’s Tool Use tab

The same tool (for Aluminum) has four operations assigned to it:

  • Roughing (R)

  • Flat finishing (Fl)

  • Wall finishing (Wa)

  • Helical boring (HB)

The tooltip for each operation states the Fusion cutting data preset that is being used: Aluminum - Side milling

If CAM Assist used this tool for its computed toolpath strategy, then the cutting data parameters configured in Aluminum - Side milling would be be used for all four operations.
