Calculating Feeds and Speeds for Presets

Feeds and speeds are calculated from the Preset data in Mastercam. The component data inputs are:

  • Surface Speed

  • Feed Per Tooth

For example, in this case, tool ‘22109’ has Aluminum Roughing presets (Cut parameter settings in the TOOLDB file):

In a calculated roughing toolpath in Mastercam, these values are reflected in the Tool properties view of the Parameters in the FPT (feed per tooth) and SFM (surface feed per minute) settings (note there is some inconsistency due to rounding):

The FPT and SFM values define the Feed rate and Spindle speed variables for the toolpath. See Calculation for Surface Speed, Spindle Speed and Feed rate.
