Finishing

The ‘Finishing’ section of the Advanced Tab provides a granular level of control for specific aspects of the finishing toolpath.

The options in this section are only displayed if the ‘Finishing' Toolpath type is checked (see the Toolpath types section).

For examples and guidance on each of the Finishing features, see Using the ‘Finishing’ section.

Description

Type of freeform finishing operation used

If you hover the mouse pointer over the value for this option, a drop-down box is revealed.

From the revealed drop-down box, select the type of freeform finishing operation for CAM Assist to use.

The choices are:

  • Contour3D - always use contour 3D operations.

  • Contour3D/Parallel - use Contour3D for steep areas and Parallel for shallow areas.

  • Contour3D/Scallop - use Contour3D for steep areas and Scallop for shallow areas.

  • SteepAndShallow - always use Steep and Shallow operations.

This default is ‘Contour3D’ - Finishing will always use contour 3D options.

Please be advised CAM Assist’s ‘SteepAndShallow’ option:

  • Is in Beta - ‘Contour3D’ is currently the default.

  • Requires the Fusion Manufacturing Extension extension to be ‘Active’.

  • May yield better toolpaths and/or machining time results.

Finishing operation ordering

From the revealed drop-down box, select how CAM Assist will order finishing operations.

The choices are:

  • Simple [Order by type] - CAM Assist will separate floor and wall toolpaths into separate folders. This can make the program easier to understand, but can introduce additional tool changes if the same tool is used for both floors and walls.

  • Optimize [Minimize tool changes] - CAM Assist will produce floor and wall toolpaths in a single folder, ordered to minimize tool changes.

Use two tools for large flat areas

  • Checked (default)

    • Uses a combination of bigger and smaller End mills for large flat areas in order to reduce the machining time.

    • This is done by large flat areas that are fully machinable by the smaller End mill and partially machinable by the bigger End mill.

  • Unchecked - use one tool for large flat areas.

Generate operations for partially machinable flat areas

  • Checked (default) - enables flat finishing operations for floors that can’t be fully machined by any of the available tools in the selected ‘Tool library’.

  • Unchecked - CAM Assist will not machine unmachinable floors, they will be left unmachined.
